Gr. 6-7 Chicopee Staff have been working behind the scenes to kick off a fabulous team building opportunity for students in Gr. 6 to 7 to attend Camp Ki-Wa-Y. This will be for 2 nights and 3 days on Oct. 2, 3, 4 and is located close to St. Clement’s in the Waterloo Region.

Right now, we are estimating the cost of camp to be approximately $200 per student. At this time, this is a rough estimate. However, we wanted to give parents some indication of this trip opportunity and the potential cost.

More information will be provided by Gr. 6-7 staff in the first week of September. There will be a mandatory meeting for parents to attend on Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM to get more details about the trip. This meeting is mandatory so that parents understand the expectations and safety considerations that are part of students going off campus overnight.

There will be an opportunity for some parent volunteers to attend the trip if space permits. However, all parent volunteers will need to provide the following if you wish to volunteer:

  • a police criminal record check
  • a police information check
  • a police vulnerable sector check

This takes a few weeks to process. You will need a letter from the school principal, Lee Anne Andriessen, to take with you to the police station. This will reduce the cost of the police check due to the basis of the check being for volunteering. If you are interested in attending, contact the school principal by email, and a letter can be sent to you for this purpose. Please obtain the police check with the Waterloo Regional Police on Maple Grove Road. If you already have the above police checks, please ensure they are valid up until June 30, 2018.

As with all school trips, please contact me personally if you require any financial assistance with covering the cost of this trip as we want to make it possible for all students to attend. Any students who are not attending the trip will be combined with other students in Gr. 5 classes. There will be programming for these students at the school.

We anticipate that this will be just an incredible experience for our students this fall.
